Why People Read a News Story

A survey has been done analyzing why readers click on a specific article in an online news source. The study questions what makes certain news appealing by what words are contained in the title and introductory text. In general the research was carried out by studying which articles were the most “popular” on any given day and examined word frequencies contained in those articles. In gener
ral, what this shed light on is that readers aren't interested in public affairs and government policy, but are much more attracted by entertainment, crime and other topics. As such, more sentimentally charged language has an appeal with readers over the language used in finance and politics. To find out more about this research it's enough to draw your own conclusions when you look at the most popular article list for each day on your favorite online newspaper.
