The Juvenile Justice System

The process used for juveniles who are under suspicion for committing a crime is different than that of adults in a similar case. As such, the juvenile court system was created. This court process offers police, prosecutors and judges a chance to discipline and offer alternatives to the offending juvenile. The police officer has the ability to issue a warning, hold the minor until a parent comes or refer him or her to juvenile court.
Once in juvenile court, a prosecutor or court officer will be responsible for the juvenile. He or she can dismiss the case, resolve it informally or make a formal charge in which case the juvenile will enter into the legal disciplinary system. That means the following may occur: counseling, confinement in a juvenile detention facility, reimbursement of the victim or probation. All are serious and will definitely have a role on future actions of any youth who has suffered them.
